My work explores quiet moments of interest in the world. Working primarily in watercolor, I am drawn to the way the pigment becomes fluid as I allow the forms to emerge and dissolve while I translate what I see into two dimensions. Representing light and shadow through color, I embed a memory in paint. My newest work attempts to translate the watercolors into oil while maintaining vibrant colors and a sense of space.
I am interested in exploring form in a new way. In practice as an architect for 26 years, I developed a command of axonometric drawings, section diagrams, and computer rendering which enable me to suggest space with precision yet remain intentionally open. My compositions balance interpretation with description of structure and proportion, allowing intuition and spontaneity to emerge within the space.
Plein air painting shaped my ability to communicate perception through color and form. Most of my work is done onsite wherever I am in the world. My studio in Chelsea allows me to work in a larger format and add detail after I have painted outside, without losing the sense of presence that a plein air painting provides.
In this group exhibition, my work participates in a collective exploration of seeing and experiencing through painting. Although I am a graduate of Cornell and Columbia University, I developed as an artist at The Art Students League of NY. I am a member of the Watercolor Society which shows in Manhattan and have received awards from the Guilford Art League and the Art Students League. The Plein Air
Painters Group is the association I love paint with the most in the Tri State Area..
“One Art Space Present: The Space Between Us”, my latest exhibition explores the physical, emotional, and imaginative distances between the artist, the artwork and the viewer, revealing the connection they share. On display through January 2026
